Between 22–29 October 2024, young people from Georgia, Romania, and Türkiye gathered in Mersin, Türkiye, for the Erasmus+ youth exchange “Humanity is No Borders” with reference number 2023-2-TR01-KA152-YOU-000167854. The Georgian team was proud to be part of this transformative experience, which explored the intersection of refugee issues, women’s rights, and gender equality.
Impact on Participants
For the Georgian youth who joined the exchange, the project was eye-opening and empowering. Through workshops, cultural activities, and group reflections, they deepened their understanding of the unique challenges refugee women face, including discrimination, gender-based violence, and lack of protection.
The exchange helped participants develop:
Empathy and sensitivity toward refugees and marginalized groups.
Critical thinking and communication skills through debates, presentations, and poster-making.
Teamwork and intercultural dialogue, as they worked closely with peers from Türkiye and Romania.
Self-confidence and social competences, overcoming shyness and building friendships across cultures.
They also became more familiar with Erasmus+ opportunities and the Youthpass tool, which helped them reflect on their personal and social growth. For many, the project strengthened their European identity and encouraged them to stay engaged in social change.
Impact on Our Organization
As the Georgian partner, this project also had a strong effect on our organization. It enhanced our capacity to manage international cooperation and strengthened our ability to address sensitive topics such as refugee rights and gender equality in our activities.
Working alongside partners from Türkiye and Romania expanded our professional network and inspired us to plan new initiatives around inclusion, women’s empowerment, and anti-discrimination. The project also increased our visibility in the local community and motivated us to engage more young people in Erasmus+ mobility opportunities.
Wider Impact in Georgia
The project’s influence did not stop with the participants. Upon returning home, the Georgian youth shared their experiences with friends, peers, and local networks, spreading awareness of refugee issues and challenging stereotypes.
